Praise for “Watershed”

“It’s a remarkably resilient album and one that captures attention straight from the get-go. … Every single song resonates through [Delaney Hafener’s] compelling approach and the finesse and focus that’s invested in every offering. Watershed is indeed an apt title considering the emotional input, but at the same time, it also signals the fact that even this early on, The Belle Curves have proven their prowess.”

“Long Island-based queer country band The Belle Curves get us jazzed for summer with “Check Engine Light” off of the band’s upcoming sophomore release Watershed… The song starts off with a rumble, perhaps imitating the engine of the vintage van lead singer Delaney Hafener and her partner drove cross-country in, inspiring the song’s lyrics. The Belle Curves celebrate and skewer the various narratives of authenticity they encounter along the way, all the while celebrating life’s quirkiness.”

– The Boot on Check Engine Light

“Singer-songwriter behind The Belle Curves, Delaney Hafener, effortlessly blends both country and Americana in her heartfelt LP. Watershed is a testament to one experiencing homesickness, love, and life on the road while finding pleasure in discovering yourself and understanding America in its full form.”

Bio:

The Belle Curves is the primary creative vehicle for Troy-based singer-songwriter Delaney Hafener. A typical multi-hyphenate musician/bandleader/producer/instrumentalist, she has an atypical relationship to fame – she doesn’t want it. She doesn’t need it, and she’s not pursuing it. Delaney seeks authenticity, joy, and community through music-making. She has no choice but to write songs. Through songwriting she processes emotions and captures moments, sharing morsels of her ever-evolving worldview. Delaney mines the world for experiences to sing about like a photographer takes to the road.

A stable yet changeable crew of musicians and creatives bring Delaney’s visions to life in the studio and on stage. Delaney takes an intentional, Brian-Wilson-esque approach to making recordings and pairs it with an irreverent, raw, yet tight live show. Precise vocal harmonies, distorted electric guitar, a groovy rhythm section, and a slightly sardonic sensibility carry Hafener’s clever and melodic songwriting. Delaney draws from a deep well of American music. Traditional folk ballads, jangly power-pop, and rollicking alt-country all make themselves at home in the sound of The Belle Curves. Seeing The Belle Curves live can mean anything from Delaney performing solo with some vintage guitar in her hands to her fronting a 6-piece band and making the unique claim of being both frontwoman and bass player.

Two new singles, Private Oceans and Topo Chico, tease a new record. Maybe it’ll come out sometime this year. We’ll see what happens. The Belle Curves play frequently throughout the Northeast with occasional ventures further from home.
